Many of our Konnekt customers tell us how much they enjoy using their Konnekt Videophone to stay virtually connected with family and friends—especially when in-person visits aren’t always possible. That’s why we’d love to introduce you to another wonderful way to build meaningful social connections: Ageing with Grace, a service that connects older people with caring volunteer visitors.
Loneliness and social isolation are growing concerns among older people, particularly those with limited family support or mobility challenges. Research shows that staying socially connected is vital for mental and emotional well-being—yet many older people go for long periods without a heartfelt conversation or companionship.
That’s where the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) makes a real difference. Funded by the Australian Government, this program matches volunteers with older people to offer regular, friendly visits—bringing warmth, conversation, and connection into their lives.
At Ageing with Grace, the team is passionate about helping older people feel valued, heard, and connected. Their volunteers offer companionship through face-to-face visits—brightening someone’s day, week, or even changing their life. And if they can’t assist you directly, they’ll happily connect you with another organisation offering this service anywhere across Australia.
Did you know? Similar volunteer visiting services exist globally:
- USA – Senior Companions Program (AmeriCorps)
- UK – Age UK Befriending, Silver Line Helpline
- Canada – Friendly Visiting by Red Cross, Senior Persons Living Connected
- New Zealand – Age Concern Visiting Services
No matter where you live, connection and companionship matter.
Friendship That Changes Lives
For many older people, a simple conversation or shared story can mean the world. Peter, an ACVVS recipient, shares how much his visitor Gee means to him:
“When Gee visits, we talk about everything—our cultures, our past, and our lives. It reminds me that I am not alone, that someone cares. It has truly changed my life.”
The volunteers often find the experience just as fulfilling. Helen, a long-time volunteer, reflects:
“I signed up to give back, but I never expected how much I would gain in return. Seeing the joy in someone’s eyes when they know you care—it’s a feeling like no other.”
